His 'Gene Story' bags Nobel Prize
Swedish scientist Svante Paabo has been selected for this year's Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discoveries on human evolution. His work will help better our understanding of how modern day humans evolved from extinct ancestors.
"“His discoveries provide the basis for exploring what makes us uniquely human,” the Committee said.
Yes, it is the Gene Story of all of us.
He is credited with the transformation of the study of human origins by examining DNA sequences from archaeological and paleontological remains from the initial period of human history. He helped develop methods for the sequencing of an entire Neanderthal genome.
And the research showed that the genomes of people today have certain genes of Neanderthal origin! Svante Paabo did something that was deemed impossible.
Svante Paabo is the son of Sune Bergstrom, who won the Nobel prize in medicine in 1982.
Yes, it is all about genes!
