The hiring team’s worst fears (and how you can use them to stand out)

Hiring teams aren’t just evaluating (or worse, judging) you, they actually have high hopes for you. They want you to be the right fit. But they also have big fears.

If you know what makes them nervous, you can position yourself as the obvious choice.

The Hiring Team’s Biggest Fears

  • Wasting time on the wrong hire: they fear hiring someone who looks great on paper but won’t perform in reality.
  • Someone who won’t fit in: they need to know you’ll collaborate well, complement their team’s strengths, and fill in the gaps instead of complaining.
  • A candidate who ghosts or jumps ships quickly: they don’t want to restart the hiring process in a few months ( = hours of extra work on top of their daily!). They need someone committed.

How to Use This to Stand Out

  • Show tangible results:?use numbers, impact, success & setbacks stories (the STAR method is gold). They want to see self awareness, prepare the "failure"stories too!
  • Demonstrate you understand the company: mention their mission, culture, and challenges. Share concrete life examples of how you align with their values (look for niche info!).
  • Prove reliability: show you’re in it for the long run. What are you eager to learn? How will you grow their business with your knowledge? What can you implement right away and in X months/ years?

Next time you apply, focus on the hiring team! Face their fears and connect the dots so they won't have any doubt about your motivation and skills. That’s how you stand out and defeat your own interview nerves, too.

Get out of your head, and into theirs!

PS Keep me posted, DM me what happened after trying this approach!
