Hiring Smart

Hiring smart is practically hiring smart people. Let me expound, it's hiring smart, driven, compassionate, do-or-die people, with insane work ethic, and a crazy sense of optimism and idealism. Sounds like finding a needle-sized unicorn in a haystack? Well, it is.
I like being surrounded by smart people as no one has a monopoly of great ideas. A lot of times it pays to have a smart person's perspective when coming up with new solutions to old problems. If the person you hired is not solving problems, increasing efficiency, or contributing to organizational goals, you hired wrong.
One thing to remember as a recruiter or manager is that tenure does not spell performance. Hence, I've always preferred resumes to have a quantified list of accomplishments (e.g. sales quota hit, events organized, programs started, etc.). That always tells me what "quality" I'm working with.
I hope both recruiters and applicants keep this in mind.
true. managers though are afraid of hiring people who might surpass them... insecurities ... ??????
