??? Managing donor relationships is no walk in the park—it’s a strategic balancing act where every misstep can mean a lost connection, a disengaged supporter, or a missed opportunity to strengthen your organization’s mission. ??Let’s face it: donor retention rates are shockingly low. Around 39% of donors stick around after the first year, meaning more than half of your supporters could drop off if you’re not actively engaging them. What’s worse? Acquiring a new donor costs six to seven times more than keeping an existing one. Every time you miss out on a chance to connect, you’re not just risking that one relationship—you’re losing significant long-term value that could have been invested right back into your cause. So how do you make sure your donors stay engaged and feel valued? 1?? Clear communication 2?? Authentic follow-ups 3?? Delivering on your promises 4?? Celebrating their impact These aren’t optional—they’re the foundation. These elements keep your donors invested, make them feel part of your mission, and ensure they’re confident in where their money goes. Are you facing challenges keeping your donors engaged or struggling with how to build genuine, long-lasting relationships? Email me for a free consult at [email protected], or just DM me. Let’s transform how you connect with your supporters and turn them into lifelong allies for your mission.

A prudent analysis is crucial before outreach
Fundraising advisor guiding global sustainability leaders towards funding and co-investment to help scale their programs worldwide, while directing resources to undeserved communities.
Making connections to donors isn't just about finding the right email address. It's also about finding alignment around mission and objectives. It's about finding the right human to have a conversation and build a relationship with. When our members ask us to make connections for for them, we often ask them to pause and think about 'why'. Why this funder? Why this fit? We can help them think based on intelligence we gather on various funders. But we certainly don't want to just reach out to any person within a "big name" donor organization because they give a lot of money away. We want to be very clear on the 'why' we are reaching out, and the to 'who'. We want to make sure there's a clear sense of overlap and synergy. Otherwise it simply wastes everyone's time and makes people feel frustrated. It may take a bit more time to identify the clear overlap, but it's truly worth it in the end for long term relationship building. Do you take the time to do this analysis before doing your donor outreach?

?? It's Job Posting Thursday! ? Title: Student Information Systems Manager ?? Company: Capital City Charter School ?? Location: Washington, DC ? What I like about this posting: There is an either/or desired (notice I said desired, not required) qualification of a BA plus 5 years work experience or an appropriate combination of education and experience. That means that if you have some college or an associates plus work experience, they will consider you if you are able to to clearly articulate why you are a good fit!?Based on the job description, folks who speak Spanish definitely want to find a way to mention that in their Summary, their Skills, and possibly even weave it into a bullet.?They also give an application deadline of October 25.?Application deadlines tend to be more common in non-profits, government roles, and higher education (all in the not-for-profit sector). This does not mean that you should wait until October 25, but it does mean that you can take a day or two to really work your resume and cover letter.?This is a role where I would definitely encourage a cover letter. ? Questions I have after looking at this posting: none! The salary is posted and the job description is clear. ?? How did I find this job? I used?Idealist.org, which is platform to search specifically for non-profit and government roles. I searched the term IT Support and set filters for fulltime positions in Technology/IT. This position caught my eye so I tracked down the position on the company's website.?Remember that your application is more likely to be read if you apply directly through the company website whenever possible! *I have no association with these roles, just sharing to boost opportunities for emerging IT professionals!* https://lnkd.in/euNqnqiC

It would depend on the issue. Are you not getting enough volunteers? Then I would evaluate how outreach and recruitment of volunteers. Are volunteers leaving too soon? Then I would evaluate onboarding, training, support and recognition of volunteers. If part of the issue is lack of staff capacity to support the volunteers, then I would gather people within the organization to brainstorm ways in which the agency can better support volunteers. Do the staff need training? Do we need a dedicated volunteer coordinator? So, the long answer is, identify the "root" issues, and develop strategies to address those issues (or, opportunities, as I like to call them).
