Hiring sees gains once again

LinkedIn's June 2022 Workforce Report was just released and below are a few highlights that stood out to me from the report:

The industries with the most notable hiring shifts month-to-month in May 2022:

  • Hospitals and Health Care (6.1% higher)
  • Construction (3.2% higher)
  • Accommodation (2.9% higher)

The?industries with the most gains relative to pre-COVID levels were:

  • Technology, Information, and Media (+23.5%)
  • Financial Services (+16.4%)
  • Transportation, Logistics, and Storage (+16.1%)

The cities with the most hiring gains relative to pre-COVID levels were:

  • Houston (+25.8%)
  • Miami (+25.0%)
  • Dallas (+20.3%)

Six metro areas (Seattle, Phoenix, Nashville, Miami, Dallas, Houston) experienced their highest hiring levels since the pandemic began.

World's busiest port reopens

What happens when you activate the busiest port on the planet?

I was on?CNN?Newsroom live?breaking down the news that Shanghai's Covid-19 lockdown would be lifted, allowing most of the city's 25 million residents to leave their homes, drive their cars, and open for business.

How quickly will the world's second-largest economy, China, ramp up, and how will the international supply chain be disrupted?

China's industrial production fell by 8.5 percent in April, consumption fell by 11% percent, and unemployment reached 6.1 percent, its highest level in two years (FT).

UBS?reduced its full-year GDP growth forecast to 3 percent due to Beijing's strict zero-covid policy.?Volkswagen AG?and?Tesla?have already suspended options, and?Airbnb?has shut down its listings in China (FT).

I said on the air that we are all interconnected, and I am hoping for a?speedy recovery for all over there...But make you still think...The future of the global supply chain will require innovation, agility, resilience and so much more...

What are your thoughts? Will the supply chain be further disrupted?

NYC disconnects its last payphones

"Ryan is Curious" Poll - Technology

Which technologies do you believe will become obsolete in the near future?

????In New York City, the last few payphones have just been disconnected. I had walked by them before as they were located on Seventh Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets - they will now have a place in the Museum of City of Network's "Analog City" Exhibit (The Wall Street Journal)

In 2015, there were over 8,000 payphones throughout the city, but none now exist. It makes you think about how prevalent the payphone was in the past, and then how technology-enabled cell phones...made it obsolete. ??

It makes me wonder/curious if you have a payphone story (or where you used it) you'd like to share. I'd like to hear it as well! I know the airport payphones (with yellow handles) have saved me numerous times in the past when getting picked up!

How do you stay current on new technologies and trends?

We had a conversation about the above question this past week in San Francisco! I'd like to thank?Michael Miebach (pictured below), the Chief Executive Officer of?Mastercard, and his team for having me.

It was wonderful to finally meet him in person. As many of you are aware, I have a healthy sense of curiosity, and I must say that Michael does as well! Loved our conversations, Michael!

It's so great to see leaders pushing to see what else they can do and impact across all industries! Sometimes all it takes is a couple of people getting together for dinner to keep up with what everyone is seeing!?

Here are some recent takeaways from Michael:

"Consumer spending remains strong, especially for travel. After many missed two years of summer vacations, flight bookings show that people are excited to get away again."

"People shift to digital payments from cash during the pandemic and those habits are staying. Many new payments choices out there – contactless, crypto, biometrics – we want to engage with all of them to let people decide how they want to make payments and move money."
