?In a bold move towards automotive manufacturing automation, Mercedes-Benz has announced a collaboration with Apptronik, a developer of humanoid robots. The partnership aims to integrate Apptronik's Apollo robots as robot workers into Mercedes-Benz's production lines, where they will take on physically demanding, repetitive, and monotonous tasks, alleviating the strain on human workers.
?
As the industry grapples with a shortage of reliable labor for low-skilled, physically challenging manual work, the automaker sees hiring robots as a viable solution. "This approach is aimed at automating physically strenuous, repetitive, and tedious tasks for which it is becoming increasingly difficult to find reliable workers," notes Apptronik.
?
Jeff Cardenas, the CEO of Apptronik, emphasized the strategic role these robot employees will play: "Mercedes-Benz plans to utilize the Apollo robots as robot workers to automate certain types of low-skilled and physically demanding manual labor."
?
The Apollo robot, standing at 173 cm (5'8") and weighing 73 kg (161 lbs), is designed to handle payloads of up to 25 kg (55 lbs). Its humanoid form allows for seamless integration into existing production lines, where it will assist as a robot worker in tasks such as delivering assembly kits and verifying components.
?
This development highlights the growing trend of robot workers in the automotive industry, as manufacturers seek to enhance efficiency, consistency, and workplace safety. By delegating physically demanding tasks to robotic counterparts as robot employees, human workers can focus on more skilled and cognitive roles, fostering a collaborative environment between humans and machines.
?
As the demand for robot workers continues to rise, platforms like "JobToRob" (JOBs TO ROBOTs) are emerging as valuable resources. "JobToRob" is the world's first job and resume bank dedicated exclusively to robots, offering a centralized platform for robots to showcase their skills and capabilities to potential employers hiring robots.

What other companies are using robots as robot workers in their production lines?
?
Many companies across various industries have embraced robotic automation to enhance their production lines by hiring robots. Here are some notable examples:
- Amazon: Leading the Charge with Over 750,000 Robot Workers, Amazon has redefined the landscape of modern logistics and operations.
- Fanuc: At one of its plants in Oshino, Japan, industrial robots produce other industrial robots, supervised by only four workers per shift. This exemplifies the concept of "lights out" production, where manufacturing activities are handled entirely automatically by robot workers.
- Philips: In a Philips plant that manufactures electric razors in the Netherlands, robots outnumber production workers by more than 14 to 1 as robot employees.
- Canon: The camera maker Canon began phasing out human labor at several of its factories as early as 2013 by hiring robots. By integrating robots into their production processes, they have improved quality, reduced errors, and cut costs.
- Beyerdynamic: In Germany, Beyerdynamic, an audio accessories manufacturer, successfully increased productivity on the factory floor by 50 percent over four years using robots as robot workers to handle repetitive tasks.
- ABB (ASEA Brown Boveri): A global leader in robotics, ABB provides advanced automation solutions for various industries, including automotive, electronics, and energy, enabling companies to hire robots.
- Kuka: Known for its innovative robotic systems, Kuka collaborates with companies worldwide to optimize production lines and improve efficiency by integrating robot workers.
- Yaskawa: Yaskawa's industrial robots are widely used as robot employees in automotive assembly, electronics, and logistics.
- Mitsubishi Electric: Mitsubishi Electric offers a range of automation solutions, including industrial robots, for diverse applications, helping companies hire robots.
- Epson Robots: Epson specializes in high-precision robots used as robot workers in manufacturing, assembly, and other industrial processes.
- Comau: Comau focuses on automation and robotics for the automotive industry, providing solutions for assembly lines and material handling by hiring robots.
?
These companies demonstrate how robotics and automation are transforming modern manufacturing, improving productivity, quality, and safety. As technology continues to evolve, we can expect more organizations to adopt robotic solutions and hire robots to stay competitive in the global market.
