Here’s what to look out for as you expand

Today, I want to address one of the most frequent and challenging issues that you'll face as a business owner and entrepreneur…

I want to talk to you about hiring mistakes.

Here are a few warning signs to look for as you interview possible candidates:

1. Negativity: If they don’t have a smile and complain about their last boss or job and how terrible everything was, don’t hire. You want enthusiasm, eye contact, and positivity around your company, don’t you? If they lack passion in your interview, I can only imagine what your level of interest will be at 4:30 PM on a Thursday afternoon. 

2. Being Unprepared: It happens more often than not. Time and time again I have to tell people to get their own house in order before they come to me. Why would anyone want to hire someone who hasn’t researched the company, doesn’t even know its mission, and lacks knowledge of the position itself? Worse are those who can’t even explain what they can offer me because they don’t know themselves.

3. Not Hungry: I don’t need people with a take-it-or-leave-it attitude, and neither should you. I don’t want people on my team who aren’t hungry because they will bail when the going gets tough. Hire people who want it!

4. Showing Up Late: This happens way too often with people. If you can’t show up on time for the interview I have no faith you would show up on time Monday morning.

Hiring anybody with these characteristics is a mistake and will cost you money.

If you are going to grow your business, you need to hire salespeople who will sell more of your product or service.

So, how do you hire a team of sales professionals that will take your business to the next level?

Here are 2 Traits (of many) I look for when I hire salespeople in my office.

#1 Driven— Ask them their “why”. Find out what pushes them. You need motivated salespeople to grow your business.

#2 Skilled— Motivation can only get you so far, at a certain point you need closing skills.

The thing is, there is a shortage of great salespeople out there. This is the reason why the right sales training is so important for the success of your team—and ultimately for the success of your business.

It’s simple—the better you and your sales team are, the better your business will be.
