Hiring Managers, Be Decisive!

Hiring Managers, Be Decisive!

The start of the year is always an active time of year from a recruitment perspective and hiring managers will be busy meeting talent in the search for their next team member.

Over the weekend I have heard of two instances that have highlighted both the opportunity and challenge of recruiting in the current market.?As we all know, the talent agenda at this point in time is a very candidate driven one, individuals tend to be in multiple internal and external processes, therefore the experience they have with any business and the stakeholders within it play a key part in their decision making.??

Lets start with the good news, a friend of mine who is seeking her next opportunity following a redundancy, was approached by a company on Wednesday 5th January and by Friday she was meeting the team and asked when she would be able to start.. Today is her first day!

All in all, that’s less than a week’s turnaround which of course is quite unusual and not always possible but the point here is that the key stakeholders were extremely positive about the candidate and responded quickly to minimising the risk losing them to another process. They made a decision and acted on it.

Another scenario is a business, where a different friend of mine works, who are currently recruiting.?Following a second interview, the Hiring Manager was asked what they thought of the candidate, the feedback was excellent and felt the individual could be a very valuable addition to the team. The Hiring Manager had already considered offering the role however company policy meant that there would have to be a final stage, as a formality. With the time taken to organise this stage, the candidate, who was active in other processes, secured other offers and accepted one of them.

To secure the best talent and minimise risk, if you feel confident with a hiring decision be decisive, it will give you the best chance of securing a positive outcome for you and your team.

As always, let us know in the comments section if you have had experiences of similar scenarios!
