Hiring on a Budget: 8 (Nearly) Free Recruiter Hacks You NEED to Know About

Hiring on a Budget: 8 (Nearly) Free Recruiter Hacks You NEED to Know About

It’s hard out here for a recruiter these days. Competition is tough, great candidates are becoming harder to find and as a result, 45% of recruiters are having difficulty filling positions due to a shortage of talent. So, if you aren’t willing to spice things up, great creative and be BOLD in your talent acquisition strategies, you’re going to find yourself left behind by the recruiters and TA that are.

To make your life easier, I’ve put together some key ingredients to creating a great recruiting recipe that EVERY recruiter can do to have an easier time finding, attracting, and closing the best clients and candidates.

Export LinkedIn Connection Data (FREE)

linkedin.com

Now, not every connection you have will have given permission for you to have access to their email, HOWEVER, there are a big chunk of prospects whether it be candidate or client that will have, and if they’ve opted in this data is here for the taking. So, in order to get into this juicy data, all you need to do is;

1.    Go to Linkedin.com and log in.

2.    Click on ‘Me’ in the top right-hand corner of LinkedIn, then scroll down to Settings & Privacy Tab.

3.    On the left-hand menu, select ‘How LinkedIn Uses Your Data’.

4.    Click. ‘Download Your Data’, select ‘Connections’ then ‘Download’. LinkedIn will send you an email once the data is ready to download.

To make it easy, I’ve done a little how-to video below;

Dux-Soup (Starter Version FREE)

dux-soup.com

Dux-Soup is a Google Chrome extension that makes it SUPER easy to find, attract and engage with prospects on LinkedIn. It allows you to automatically view client and candidate profiles, endorses skills, follows activity AND sends personalized messages on your behalf to target prospects. And the best bit? Because it’s a browser plug-in it saves you HOURS of manual data entry, has the ability to automatically visit profiles of LinkedIn based on Google or LinkedIn searches AND allows you to make notes directly on the profile pages which you’ve saved, so you don’t have to keep flip-flopping between your email, CRM, excel spreadsheets and the platform.

#ProHack - Use Dux-Soup to export Job Data. Especially for Business Development Consultants, exporting target companies job postings and company size allows you to get granular details on company size and who is growing. Using that information, you can knuckle down on targeted messaging and land some new clients or expand into existing ones.

RecruitEm

recruitin.net

In Free, Premium and Recruiter Lite versions of LinkedIn, your views are either restricted or only available to people within your extended network (up to 3rddegree connections). That’s kind of annoying, right? Introducing RecruitEm.

RecruitEm is in many ways a search engine that allows you to search LinkedIn, Dribble, Xing, GitHub, StackOverflow, Google+ and Twitter. It even has a fun little tool that helps you optimise your job ads. The interface is idiot-proof, so if you know how to use Google, you’ll figure it out.

#ProHack– For the best results, make sure you log out of LinkedIn, or the other platforms first.

Lusha

lusha.co

Another great little Chrome Extension, Lusha uses publically available data (phone numbers and email addresses) and aggregates it to align with the people you correspond with, whether that be via email or on LinkedIn.

You can manage and export lists of contacts, upload them to your CRM or share them with your team. With users report 93% accuracy of the data found, Lusha is a great way to make a HUGE reduction in time spend finding contact details and reaching out via InMail.

Nerdy Data

nerdydata.com

Nerdy Data is a great tool for resourceful recruiter. It allows you to search for the company’s competitors and view their clients. Which means, especially for BD consultants, you have access to a HUGE database of companies to a) go at and b) tab into when your client wants someone from a ‘competitor’. It’s really that simple.

#ProHack – If you want to look REALLY smart in-front of your clients, you can even do some digging and see how they stack up against their competition. Understanding their industry and their place in the ecosystem will enable you to truly understand their needs, but also sell them as an employer to candidates.

Instagram Search

instagram.com

According to seasoned Tech Recruiter Willem Wijnans, the way to crack Instagram for recruiting is understanding how the platform structures their user’s URLs. Using specific search-strings, you can narrow your search to users that mention specific keywords in their profiles, posts and the other users they follow.

So, a search like;

site:instagram.com "employer branding" posts followers following

... will kick back all the self-proclaimed “Employer Branding” people on Instagram, which stands at 137 currently. You can even add other keywords that are relevant to you and your company to really niche down and single people out. So a string like;

site:instagram.com "employer branding" posts followers following marketing

... will kick back all the “employer branding” people who mention an interest in OR are in marketing. So, once you’ve found the person you’re looking for, you can use LinkedIn or Lusha to find them and dive into a conversation if you can’t do so on Instagram directly.

Use Your WiFi To Bag Top Talent

Another EPIC idea from Willem Wijnans - Have you ever been sitting in a coffee shop or shared workspace like WeWork, gone to log onto the Wifi and noticed 50 other uses around you? This is PRIME recruitment marketing real estate. Imagine if you could park yourself in a shared working space that houses clients you’re trying to get into, or in a coffee shop right outside one of the top companies you’re trying to poach from… Let the hunting begin.

Grammarly

grammarly.com

Another Chrome extension, (can you tell I’m a Chrome fan?), Grammarly isn’t just a recruiter hack, it’s a LIFE HACK. Have you ever sent a mis-spelt email to a candidate or client? Posted something on LinkedIn only for your colleague to send you an email saying “Did you mean to say that?” We’ve all been there. Grammarly has your back, so as long as you whatever you are writing is on Chrome or within the plugin, your social media posts will be clear, your emails will be mistake free and all your copy will be effective.

Conclusion

So, let the 39,000 other recruitment agencies in the UK spam people via InMail and irritate CEO’s with cold calls. Be BOLD. Be CREATIVE. Be INNOVATIVE.
