And a bonus note. We need to air our grievances...

We recruit machinists for quite a number of shops. Sometimes we are dealing with the HR manager. Sometimes the Machining Manager. Quite often the shop owner.?

Typically we don’t care who we deal with, so long as that individual is responsive.

Every shop we talk to says the following in some form or another: ?

1. “We are having a really hard time finding skilled machinists/programmers”
2. "Hiring is our top priority"

1 is always true. But 2 often times is not. Employers often times can’t walk the talk on that one.?

We will submit solid candidates. With the relevant experience the employer has requested. Candidates who are ready to interview asap. And who may be looking at other opportunities in parallel. But then it will take the hiring manager 5 days to give us a response. After 3 follow up emails, 2 calls and 1 text. from us (yes we are persistent, that’s our job).?

That’s unacceptable if hiring is actually a priority for you. These machinists are really hard to find. So when you/we find one, that process has to be treated with care.?

So if you’re one of those employers that is taking 5+ days to get back to a candidate, you need to ask yourself if hiring is actually a priority for you. And you need to stop complaining that it’s hard to find people.
