Hire Top Talent Remotely -Emerging VR & AR in Recruitment
Article by: Amanuel Yohannes An Emerging Recruiter
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the start of social distancing, self-isolating and the majority of people working from home, recruiting and hiring at this time and even afterwards, will pose its own challenges. The steps that HR departments or hiring managers have to take in order to avoid losing out on top talent and boosting their employer brand will determine the future of most businesses post coronavirus outbreak.
Will this outbreak turn the remote workforce into the new reality we all sensed it could become? Should hiring managers and employers invest in top of the line digital interviewing tools? Are they using their time in lockdown to create a unique business advantage? Even though this is an unpredictable and overwhelming time, it could very well be the perfect time to dust off ideas that would normally take a lot of time to put into practice or simply open the mind to new and exciting ideas. At the same time, there’s never been a better time to assess your organisation to help you to prepare for life after COVID-19, including the people within it.
Recruitment is a topic many businesses are not even thinking about right now, and it’s even more difficult to plan which roles you’ll be ready to fill when the pandemic is over. However, there is a way you can ensure that when you can hire, the best people are ready and waiting.
Building a pool of suitable candidates interested in working for you, can be done through smart recruitment marketing, social media and digital campaigns. A talent pool is almost a queue of candidates ready to step into roles which include a wide range of skills and people at different stages of their professional career. In a world of data-driven recruiting, talent pools are more useful than ever before.
A Lesson In History
During the 2008 global financial crisis, BCG and the European Association for People Management surveyed 3,400 executives, including 90 senior human resources leaders in more than 30 countries, to see how they were responding. The most frequent action was to scale back recruiting. At the same time, survey participants rated the selective hiring of high-performing employees from competitors as one of the three most effective responses to the crisis and the one with the best impact on employee commitment. This irrationality is widespread. Those who stay rational can exploit it.
Remote Hiring Is the New Future in a Post-Pandemic World
Companies need to first let the public know they are still open, still hiring and moving forward. The available candidate pool will gravitate towards those firms who are active in outreach.
Additionally, companies should refresh and cleanse their job postings online, new postings will get the most traction and ones posted even a month ago will be viewed as potentially not relevant anymore. Once this is accomplished, it’s important to live by a new process of “remote totality” which includes attracting, screening, recruiting, onboarding, training and developing a work routine for all new hires remotely.
Emerging VR & AR in Recruitment Technologies
Modern enterprises are increasingly opting for new technologies for enhanced efficiency. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) have now grown popular for employee training, recruitment, and several other HR processes. Yes, those old days of finding resumes as the only concrete document for employee evaluation has gone with the wind of change. Now, a host of new technologies, including VR and AR, are making this possible most innovatively.
There are other ways VR and AR can make the recruitment process easier. For example, during recruitment, employees spend considerable time in the company's workplace for evaluating the work environment and its respective pros and cons. Now, a VR based simulated environment of a workplace can help employees give a better idea about the working environment they are going to be part of.
Most importantly, this can give employees relief from the compulsion of visiting the company's workplace personally. While sitting miles away, they can get an air of the working environment right through their mobile device screen.
Now Is the Time to Build Deeper Connections
Recruitment strategies have done a 180-degree turn in just the last week. Most focus is not on the employed and passive candidates that were looking to facilitate a move, but instead on the fantastic candidates that have hit the market due to the extreme circumstances.
Capturing these candidates and re-deploying proven resources is now the focus. The calls with these individuals have become much deeper in nature. Now, more than ever, these people need a recruiter to navigate the market and point them in the direction of companies and industries hiring.
