Hire Real People, not Years ! Agreed ?

"Urgent. Looking for people with 3-5 years experience in management, administration, marketing, IT. Qualified applicant should apply immediately."

The most ridiculous part of job announcements like this one is the 3-5 year part. Yet, everyone does it. 

And yet, who hiring managers want and who they need are 2 very different types of candidates.

Who they need are the best people they can find, regardless of years of experience.

The best candidate may have 25 years or 0 years of experience, if you are willing to train. Both groups are very motivated. On the job performance depends hugely on motivation and attitude.

There are no overqualified candidates, only over-rigid hiring practices.

How many times do we tell "over-qualified" candidates that they would be bored ? Good people are never bored - they will find new ways of doing things.

The secret to my success, I always hired people who are smarter than me. In my case, it was always easy.

Hire people, not years !

If you have say 5 Years of experience and you keep on doing the same stuff for 5 more years. Then you do not have 10 Years of experience, you have 5 Years of experience which you have repeated.
