Hipsterville 2013

Day 16. I am ignored by the world as life goes on unabated in my continued absence. The world that I remain conscious of is the alley war, the two opponents known to me only as Cat and Squirrel. This tedious endeavour has gone on the entirety of my stay, and as I groggily sit on the rear gallery, woozy from NyQuil, yet another chapter unfolds. Squirrel surveys the terrain from above. The coy cat shows little or no interest. The squirrel descends, intent on its quarry: a half eaten croissant discarded by a peasant. The distance is rapidly traversed by Squirrel, the pastry obtained, and Cat is suddenly bearing down. There is a flurry of acrobatics, a cartoonish ball of dust, claws and fur finally ejecting Squirrel who flees up the telephone pole and is lost to Cat. Is this scene to be a metaphor for my flagging spirit or merely a passing bit of entertainment? I shall find out in the coming days. What other lessons does the engaging world of Cat vs. Squirrel have in store?
