Day 37. The dawn breaks cool and serviceable. Breakfast thin and salty; ham, eggs, bread all squished like a slider. The thinness does, here if one believes, show love. Yes I moved to Montreal once upon a time to be in love with a girl who used to rant about her ex-boyfriend, a disheveled miscreant of a cocaine addled young man who drove erratically. She told the story of how he said his Mother loved him and he knew she did cause she used to squish flat his hamburgers, "just like at Dic Ann’s". At the time I was astonished, if not found dumb at the statement. What could this mean? Here, 20 years later staring at my flat egg sandwich I am not willing to "get it", but I do smile deep inside upon receiving my thin delight. I smile in the knowledge that the cook has taken extra time to show his love for me, a random client. I smile and eat my sandwich, drink my coffee. Again, the weather is serviceable.
