IS HIP SURGERY ALWAYS NECESSARY?
The location of pain varies with hips and a number of possibilities needs to be ruled in or out before deciding on hip surgery. The possibilities causing pain around the hip include subluxations of either the L-5 or L-2 vertebra which control both the muscle around the hip and also the blood (trophic) supply into the acetabular (hip) socket. The T-11 through L-1 nerve roots supply sensation of the dermomeres along the low abdomen into the groin area and front of the hip.
X-Rays can see the cartilage space of each hip as well as degenerative arthritis. They also can pick up short legs and twisted pelvis as well as curvatures of the spine.
A good series of muscle tests can tell what muscles are working that support the hip and low back. By fixing the accessory anomalies it may be discovered that hip surgery may not be needed at this time. If it is needed I am happy to refer you for surgery.
