Knowing how to handle and store fresh produce correctly will help?reduce food waste, improve flavour and if you sell food maximise your GP

Please find some simple hints and tips to make your fresh produce last longer:

  • Keep produce unwashed in storage and when you’re ready to use your fresh items, make sure you?wash your produce properly
  • Store your fresh produce where there is some airflow (not in airtight containers or bags). This prevents them from spoiling faster
  • Keep away from direct sunlight. Light and warmth promote bacterial growth
  • Don't stack produce. Pressure and lack of airflow shorten fresh produce’s lifespan.
  • Don't cut produce until you're ready to use it. Cut produce is vulnerable to micro-organisms
