When talking about the size of hinge, most people pay attention to the Height x Width x Gauge, however,Hinge Gap(Swage) is a very important size to be considered when choosing a hinge especially for metal door,if the hinge gap does not fit to the door,it could cause big trouble.
What is Hinge Gap(Swage)?
Hinge Gap(Swage) is the gap size between 2 leaves when they are parallel to each other.Regular gap sizes in market are 0,1.6~1.8mm,2.0mm and 2.5mm,usually it is related to hinge size,it can be customized to meet special requirement.
Why should pay attention to the Swage size?
Take metal door as an example,if the hinge swage size is too small, when the door is closed, the gap between door panel and door jamb will be too big which does not meet for security and fire rated requirement.
If the hinge swage size is too big,the door panel is like moving horizontally, which cause door panel may hit the jamb or the other panel and cannot close properly.
