The Himalayan Mountain No One Can Climb

Machapuchare is a 6,993-meter mountain in Nepal, where three of the world’s 10 highest mountains can be found. Nepal gets money from mountain climbing activities. However, people are not allowed to climb Machapuchare. Mountain climbing in Nepal became popular because of British Army officer Jimmy Roberts. He opened the country’s mountains to the rest of the world.

In 1964, Roberts started Nepal’s first mountain-climbing company. In 1957, he tried to climb to the top of Machapuchare. However, bad weather made his team turn back just 45 meters from the top. Roberts asked the Nepali government to never allow people to climb the peak, and they agreed.

The local people believe that Machapuchare is special. A poet that lives near the mountain said that nobody should step on the peak, and it should only be looked at.

Many places have been destroyed by having too many tourists. Nepal’s many other mountains bring money to the country, but one majestic mountain stays clean, quietly watching over the world.
