Himachal was named by Acharya Diwakar Datt Sharma who was one of the greatest Sanskrit scholars. Hima means 'snow' in Sanskrit. The word 'Himachal' literally translates to 'In the lap of Himalayas' Himchal Pradesh dates back to the period of Indus Valley civilisation, which flourished 4,000 years ago
Himachal has 33 Sanctuaries and 2 National Parks of which The Great Himalayan National Park has been declared a heritage site by the UNESCO. There you will find some rare species of animals that can only be found here including, the barking deer and the snow leopard. Himachal has some most famous boarding schools that are also the oldest running schools since they were established during the British era. The land of deities Himachal towns and villages show traces of the mythological era of Ramayana and Mahabharata. The Jakhoo temple of Shimla is believed to be the place where Lord Hanuman rested while in pursuit of the Sanjeevani booti while Kullu has many temples that are said to have been built by the Pandavas in the last year of their exile. Himachal Pradesh produces apples, peaches, cherries, kiwis and plums in abundance apart from the dry fruits such as hazelnuts and chilgoza or pine nuts. The latter is a rare nut that is grown in the state alone. Shimla is the only place in the whole of Asia to sport a natural ice skating rink. The legendary Silk Route, trusted to have been the path for the traders to go to and from other countries such as China, Tibet, Laddakh and Kashmir for selling wool, semi precious stones, livestock and of course silk is also located nowhere else but in the Abode of Snow Himachal and there are many things yet to describe about this unique place

Christ Church in Shimla one the oldest churches in North India and was built by the British in 1857 to serve the large Anglican British community in the area. The majestic appearance of the church and its stunning location makes it a prime attraction in Shimla. Christ Church is situated on The Ridge. It stands out as one of the prominent landmarks of Shimla and its silhouette is visible for many kilometres around the vicinity of Shimla city. It is designed in the neo-Gothic style. The church is lit at night to illuminate it. The church contains five fine stained glass windows. One represents the Christian virtues of Faith, Hope, Charity, Fortitude, Patience, and Humility. The chancel window was designed by Lockwood Kipling (father of Rudyard Kipling). The pipe-organ of Christ Church is the largest in the Indian subcontinent; it was installed in September 1899. Picturesque The Viceregal Lodge in Shimla the most historically significant and architectural impressive landmark of the region that makes for a pleasant half-day excursion. The Viceregal Lodge was the summer residence of the Indian Viceroy, the British Raj leader who governed the whole of the Indian subcontinent between 1888 until 1946. Within the Viceroy Lodge many significant decisions from this era about India were devised, discussed and agreed upon. For visitors the Viceregal Lodge is an elaborate Mock-Tudor stately home that is surrounded by immaculately maintained gardens. Only a few of the staterooms can be visited as part of a brief tour as the building has been transformed into an advanced university complex. Viceregal Lodge is located 2 kms west of Shimla on the summit of Observatory Hill, which provides wonderful panoramic views over the region. Originally the residence of the Viceroys of India, it now houses the Indian Institute of Advanced Study
Toy Train the most exciting way to commute to Shimla is by the Kalka-Shimla Railway. But what’s more amazing is that it declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO and holds the world record of being the train to cover the steepest slope (5816 ft) in least distance (just 96 km). The Kalka-Shimla express is runs through a massive stretch of 806 bridges, 103 tunnels and 18 stations. Kalka-Shimla Toy Train is said to be one of the most scenic railway journeys in India. UNESCO added the Kalka–Shimla railway to the mountain railways of India World Heritage Site. This journey runs on a narrow gauge from Kalka to Shimla, treating passengers with breathtaking views of rugged mountains, lush pine forests, waterfalls, valleys and picture-perfect hill stations along the way that will definitely tempt you to disembark and bask in their beauty
Kufri at an altitude of 2510 m above sea level, a small hill popular for its hiking and skiing trails, Kufri is at its natural best during winters. Skiing and tobogganing can be enjoyed along snow-capped slopes. The Himalayan Nature Park is one of the major tourist Places in Kufri. This Park offers numerous endangered birds and animals such as goral, serow, musk deer, leopard, black bears and so on. Chail a hill station 44 kilometres (27 mi) from Shimla known for its salubrious beauty and virgin forests, Chail Palace is well known for its architecture: the palace was built as summer retreat by the Maharaja of Patiala during the British Raj, on the land allotted to him by the British for former's assistance in the Anglo-Nepalese War. The cricket ground and a polo ground which is there at an altitude of 2,444 m and the world's highest cricket ground. Hatu Peak at an elevation of 3400 m (11,152 ft) above sea level nearly 71 km from Shimla. The peak is surrounded by dense forest of conifers, oaks and maples. At the top of the peak is a wooden temple called Hatu temple. According to local belief the famous Hatu Mata temple is the temple of Maa Kaali. Naldehra a picturesque hill townat an elevation of 2044 m above sea level, name of the town is a combination of two words, ‘nag’ and ‘dehra’, which means the ‘abode of the king of snakes’. The Mahunag Temple, devoted to a Serpent Lord; Nag, is an important religious site of the place. Viceroy Lord Curzon was so amazed with the surroundings that he decided to build a golf course in the region. This tranquil hill station was a favourite of the Viceroy Lord Curzon, who not only designed India’s first 9-hole golf course here, but also named his third daughter Alexandra Naldehra after it. For those more interested in trekking, Naldehra is also home to Shaily Peak, whose hiking trail runs a steep 8 kms to the summit for beautiful views

Hidimba Devi Temple locally known as Dhungari Temple, also known variously as the Hadimba Temple, an ancient cave temple dedicated to Hidimbi Devi, wife of Bhima, a figure in the Indian epic Mahābhārata. The temple is surrounded by a cedar forest called Dhungiri Van Vihar at the foot of the Himālayas. The sanctuary is built over a huge rock jutting out of the ground which was worshiped as an image of the deity. The Hidimba Devi temple was built in 1553 CE by Maharaja Bahadur Singh. Famous picturesque himalayan sight Khajjiar sits on a small plateau with a small stream-fed lake in the middle that has been covered over with weeds.
