Hilti's Approach to Sustainable Recycling

Hilti's Approach to Sustainable Recycling

We want to be part of a world less burdened by the construction industry's impact, while helping to secure its long-term success.

In celebration of #GlobalRecyclingDay, a day to help recognize and celebrate the importance recycling plays in preserving our limited resources and securing the future of our planet, we wanted to showcase our team's efforts around sustainability and circularity, especially as it pertains to the construction industry.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Our approach starts with reducing future waste by first optimizing the amount of equipment our customers need to do more with less and extend the life of a tool. We also aim to reuse as much as possible by reusing components that meet our standards for repairs instead of using new spare parts.

Tools that can’t be reused are recycled by our global network of audited partners. In North America we recycle over 1 million pounds of tools and 58,000 pounds of batteries per year to help ensure these products don’t end up in landfills.

Refurbished Tool Program

Our Refurbished Tool Program here in North America was designed with sustainability in mind to support charitable organizations that align with our four focus areas of education, housing, community development and equity. This program was established to supply charitable organizations with tools to?further their mission and build a better future.?Through the Refurbished Tool Program, tools that are returned to our facility are cleaned and tested to ensure the highest quality and then donated to community agencies. Last year, 1,400 tools were refurbished and donated to non-profits and schools.

Team members volunteer their time to cleaning, testing and packaging up these tools during our Annual Sales Meeting, local Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) community events, and even a dedicated team working on this full time - maximizing our circularity impact.
