The Hills and Valleys of Creativity: A Fleeting State of Wonder
Wonder is a gift for the very young, as we get older, it develops into wisdom then routine. The goal of the creative is to tap into the curiosity of our younger selves and find the same joy and interest we forfeit for age and practicality.
The creative mind is not practical, it is larger than life and beyond the expected or imagined. This is where we rediscover youth, where inventors invent and artists create.
Greeting Cards, tattoos, epitaphs and now the internet is where people, creative and not, try to find their meaning. Humanity is always seeking summation of what makes life special, how to live an authentic life using finite time wisely.
This brings us back to wonder; philosophy is a question thrown up to the universe from someone seeking answers much like the scientist, the creative, the child.
Before I started wildlife gardening, all I was interested in was fauna, when I starting learning the many species of plants and their place in the ecosystem, I discovered a whole new world to study.
This reigniting of interest has added to my writing, art and photography. As my subject matter expands so does the excitement of creating.
Another recent factor of my journey to learn and understand is finding all the master writer’s works and reading them voraciously. I find whole new avenues of thought and an expanded reasoning for my own writing.
I am currently reading Hemingway, Kafka, Borges, Virginia Wolfe and Emily Dickinson, quite an eclectic group of writers but all are adding to my view on the many avenues of perfecting my writing.
After open heart surgery only six months prior I have developed a writer’s block. I am just now finding my words again. It is like photographing in an amazing place like Glacier National Park, sometimes having too much to digest is more difficult to explore then the simpler, less overwhelming subjects that make you work for the photograph.
I am now slowly but surely laying out my thoughts and ideas, a revised, refreshed, reignited brand that will included words, photos, illustration and painting-all focusing on nature and the highs and lows of being a creative person. Stay tuned.
