Hillary Clinton's email scandal and the FBI's verdict
This Wall Street Journal editorial (link at the bottom) on Hillary's email scandal makes some good points. While I do not doubt FBI Director Jim Comey's character, motives and fairness (perhaps it adds to the perception of his credibility in this particular case that he is a Republican), I am not confident as a matter of due process, that justice has been thoroughly carried out.
I also think, sadly for the American credo of justice bring blind to who is on trial, that someone not named Hillary might have faced a different fate. Furthermore, I think Comey's statement should rightfully open up the "I was merely extremely careless" defense for anyone else similarly on trial.
Do I think "emailgate" disqualifies Hillary from becoming president? No. Do I still plan to vote for her? Yes, especially because I absolutely will never vote for Donald Trump. But I believe there is a credible if debatable case to be made that she should've been criminally indicted. I don't think it's as cut and dry as Comey makes it out to be that "no reasonable prosecutor" could criminally charge her. Moreover, given that whether or not to criminally charge Hillary is not Comey's decision to make, why did he even bother making his grand statement and putting his thumb on one side of the scales of justice?
