Leaders are only as successful as the systems that support them – both personally and professionally.
In fact, highly successful leaders have systems and routines for almost everything they do, which leaves them time and energy to focus on the things that require more nuance.
In times of yester-year, businessmen had housewives – and?she?was their?system???
But times are different now. With AI on the agenda and increasingly complex, adaptive, globalised, joined up thinking required, systems thinking will need to become your super power.
“To be an effective leader, you need to cultivate a systems mindset"~ Professor Linda Hill, Harvard Business School
I’ve written about successful leaders having systems before and received so many DMs from readers who appreciated the article that I thought it was worth reminding you again.

1 年When I started focusing on systems over goals, EVERYTHING became easier, more enjoyable and I finally started to see real traction towards all of my goals. My systems are really about having a few habits and routines to stay on top of the various areas of my life. I now have systems for my health & fitness, for my finances, self-care/ self-management, personal development and in my business and am able to manage all areas peacefully- the value of this message cannot be understated. Your point about planning what you will say 'no' to is a good reminder- I think a bit part of the reason systems work so well is they reduce decision fatigue as does pre-meditating on your 'hard nos'. I still find myself mentally negotiating with myself on things like 'whether or not to have dessert' or 'staying in bed for 5 more minutes'. I suppose this is the nature of being human and self-improvement... there will always be opportunities to tweak the system and dial in our habits even more.
