Highlights of the UK-EU Brexit Transition
All EU nationals arriving in the UK during the transition (from March 2019 to December 2020) will have the same rights as those who've arrived until now. This is reciprocal for British citizens in the EU. - The UK will not participate in EU decisions during the transition period, but will still be bound by single-market rules. - The UK may agree trade deals during the transition (that is, if it can negotiate them this fast). - The Irish border issue is NOT resolved. The backstop solution that will apply "unless and until another solution is found" is a regulatory alignment between Northern Ireland and the EU, which will avoid a hard border on the island but potentially isolate Northern Ireland from the rest of the UK. - Gibraltar will leave the EU too. The UK and Spain may still negotiate particular arrangements.
