Highlights of recently attended Education Innovation Summit in Pune.

An Education Innovation Summit was held in Pune by Elets Technomedia in association with digitalLEARNING Magazine. Primary focus of this summit was on how we could make the entire education ecosystem future-ready with incorporation of innovations. This event had presence of professionals from the education and corporate world, a group of policy-makers, education professionals, faculty, thinkers, technology specialists, and more. They discussed the details in depth with some proven methods and approaches for more useful teaching & learning in this digital era.

?I attended a very exciting panel discussion with the Topic:?Evolving role of edtech in higher education: The future of learning & skilling. This was moderated by Nasir Shaikh, Group Chief Executive Officer, The Lexicon Group of Institutes and the panelist were Prof. Anil Kashyap, President and Chancellor, NICMAR University, Dr. Hridyash Deshpande, Vice Chancellor, Ajeenkya D Y Patil University & Dr. Anant Chakradeo, Pro-Vice Chancellor, MIT Art Design and Technology University.

?Here is what I concluded from this summit?

  1. Educators are using technology to support students and improve the quality of education. Modern technology and devices can help teachers increase student engagement and personalize learning. Technology can definitely benefit the educational experience. Technology can also be used to create new classroom learning models. Students can work together on group projects using technology. These collaborative learning activities can also be monitored and analyzed to assess student progress.
  2. Technology can provide students with access to countless online resources. They can find information, engage in interactive games, and reinforce math, reading, and writing skills. These tools can also be used to teach new creative skills. For example, they can make slide show presentations with Google Drive. Alternatively, they can use podcasting to engage auditory learners. These new tools can also allow students to share their learning with classmates in different states.
  3. In addition, educators can leverage technology to support formative assessments. For example, students can collaborate on Google Docs and receive real-time feedback on their work. They can also use instructional videos to make concepts more clear. These skills can be applied in any content area. They can also use sites and upload word lists to the site for students to practice reading and writing skills.
  4. This plan builds upon the work of education researchers and entrepreneurs. It is expected to appeal broadly to teachers, administrators, policymakers, and other stakeholders. It outlines specific actions to ensure that all learners are prepared to compete in the global economy.
  5. The plan is based on the work of leaders in the higher education community and the classroom. Specifically, it builds on the work of educators, district leaders, and developers. It identifies five activities to support the effective use of technology: preparing educators, improving instructional techniques, expanding learning opportunities, enhancing student support, and providing more significant equity.
  6. Using technology in the classroom can give students the advantage of completing their assignments at an appropriate level. Moreover, it can also help teachers to provide a more meaningful education to their students. For example, a digital tool could accelerate the responses of an educator to a student's question. Or, it might be used to reduce the time it takes for a teacher to compose a periodic email or communicate with a colleague.
  7. Aside from facilitating the teaching-learning process, technology can also make learning fun and exciting. This is important since students often need help to maintain attention. Moreover, students can gain a better understanding of a topic through visual learning. The use of instructional videos and smart boards are just two of the many technologies that can enhance a student's educational experience.
  8. One of the most important advantages of educational technology is that it makes it easier for students to connect with other people. In addition, it can help teachers reach out to parents. These connections can be vital in a globally networked society, where a sense of personal responsibility is essential.
  9. Using a mobile phone in the classroom is a simple and efficient way to facilitate communication, and it can even be an effective form of peer-to-peer teaching. In addition to this, many educational apps can be downloaded on a student's device. These tools can include games, quizzes, and other interactive activities. This technology can also enable students to work together, which is essential to fostering social interaction.
  10. Finally, educators must be able to use their knowledge of technology to advance research. For example, a school could give teachers a week to think about how they might teach online. This would allow administrators to take stock of the faculty's understanding of online spaces. It could also provide solutions for future disruptions.
