This event offered a unique platform for companies to explore the potential of AI in addressing real-world business challenges, in collaboration with talented African data scientists. Represented by over 11 countries and nationalities, our hackathon was truly international. Over the course of one week, 13 promising African data scientists, supported by 10 senior mentors, worked on a diverse range of challenges presented by visionary organizations:

?The hackathon was a week of intense collaboration, knowledge sharing, and cutting-edge innovation. Here's what some of our participants, host companies, and mentors had to say about the experience:

It was a great opportunity to learn new skills, collaborate with fellow data enthusiasts, and apply our knowledge to real-world problems. I found the most valuable aspect of the hackathon to be the feedback and guidance from our supervisors, who helped us improve our solution and presentation.

Participant: Chantelle Amoako, Ghana.

The experience I got from the #AfricaBuildsAI hackathon was great. It was all about learning and enhancing my critical thinking and problem-solving skills and abilities. The most valuable thing about this is the skills I gained both technically and professionally, as well as the network of people I met during this 1-week hackathon.

Participant: Patrick Uwayo, Rwanda

The quality of the participants was astounding. They’re knowledgeable and very motivated. They wrote production quality code from the get-go phase. Being around such motivated individuals helped spark again the will to develop new tools and to work on subjects that matter and have an impact.

?Mentor: Ricardo Segundo, Data Scientist at Credit Suisse

The team's understanding of project requirements led to an innovative approach, exceeding our expectations. The final product significantly impacted our work, and we are excited to use the API tool to assist refugee talent in accessing sustainable employment. ?

Host Company: Na'amal

Abdi Ambari, Technology and Communications Lead
