德勤 ’s 2024 Global Gen Z and Millennial Survey connected with 23,000 respondents from 44 countries across the globe and offers insights to what’s shaping the workplace for them and their societal experiences.?
?? #PurposeDrivenWork is crucial: An overwhelming majority (nearly 90% of Gen Z and Millennials) say a sense of purpose is vital for job satisfaction and well-being. They value employers with a positive societal impact, and this greatly influences their loyalty and job choices. They're increasingly willing to reject employers and assignments that don't align with their values, particularly on environmental impact and inclusivity.? Given recent trends and the hundreds of conversations I have with younger people, it’s not a surprise to see?this focus this early in their careers.? It is my view that #boomers care about purpose too - and are increasingly voting with their feet (leaving or joining an organization).? While I didn’t formally articulate my purpose - “to unlock the potential of people and build inclusive prosperity,” until my Third Act, as I reflect back, the second half of my career, the choices and the work I did reflected that.
?? Navigating #GenAI: While there's excitement about GenAI's potential, there are also concerns about automation and job security.? Many are investing in #reskilling and GenAI training, with over a third planning to participate in training within the next year, however nearly 50% say their employers are not providing sufficient training. Frequent users of GenAI are more positive and also more aware of potential job disruptions, leading to a commitment to reskilling and training.??
My take: Invest in yourself - reskill, upskill, always learn.? Not only does it give you more career opportunities, it keeps you energized and motivated.?
?? #MentalHealth: Stress and mental health are still concerns, though there are signs of improvement (very happy to see this).? Employers are making progress but need to prioritize mental health more openly.

?? Optimism is on the rise: Nearly one-third of Gen Z (32%) and millennials (31%) believe their country's economy will improve in the next year, reaching the highest levels since pre-pandemic times. Personal financial optimism is also strong, with 48% of Gen Z and 40% of millennials expecting better financial circumstances. However, financial insecurity and living paycheck-to-paycheck remain significant challenges.
Employers who harness the energy that Gen Zs and Millennials bring to the workplace by providing meaningful, purpose-driven work, flexibility, supportive workplaces, and growth opportunities will foster a more engaged and adaptable workforce to build a #FutureofWork where work aligns with values and supports #wellbeing.?
