Serving refugees since 1987. Together, we create home.
On May 7, 2024, Reception House Waterloo Region had the privilege of organizing the "Finding Our Place: A Journey Home" art exhibition at City Hall in Kitchener. This unique event provided a platform for youth newcomers to share their stories through art, revealing the challenges and triumphs they encountered on their journey to Canada.
Our collaboration with the talented artist Pamela Rojas resulted in an impressive display of portraits and artwork, capturing the emotional journeys of our youth clients. These young artists used their creativity to illustrate their experiences of leaving their home countries, facing conflict, and ultimately arriving in Canada.
The exhibition featured a variety of artistic expressions, including:
Throughout the event, attendees had the opportunity to meet the artists, hear their stories, and gain insights into their journeys. The response was overwhelming, and we are grateful to everyone who attended and supported this meaningful event.
A special thank you goes to our community partners in the City of Kitchener for their continuous support and collaboration. Without you, events like this wouldn't be possible.
For a whole month, an exhibition showcasing stunning artwork is available for viewing at the Berlin Tower inside the City Hall in Kitchener. Please consider visiting it and bring your friends, family, and kids!
We look forward to future events where we can continue to showcase the incredible talent and resilience of our youth newcomers.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with us!
Warm regards,
