From June 12-14, 170 media and tech professionals from media companies like New York Times, Axel Springer and Trinity Mirror are gathered in Aarhus, Denmark for CUE Days 2018. Here's a wrap-up of day 2.
1. Six themes that define journalism for the Digital Age by Dr. Mario Garcia, CEO of Garcia Media
Even though last night was eventful and late for some CUE Days attendees, people had no problem getting up early this morning - knowing that THE news design expert, Dr. Mario Garcia, was first up on the program of day 2.
Dr. Garcia simply delivered one quotable statement after the other - which the tweeters of the audience noticed as well. So I think I'll let the tweets and quotes speak for themselves below.
"Where do I get a lot of my inspiration? From Snapchat. I do not belong there. My grandchildren are not happy I'm there. but I go there to study." - Dr. Mario Garcia
"You better keep that finger moving. Keep that finger happy!" - Dr. Mario Garcia
"Monday-Friday won’t be feasible. But the weekend paper.. If I had to invest in print, I would invest in the Sunday paper, and I would invest in rebranding it." - Dr. Mario Garcia
2. The transformation of OEM by Francisco Torres Vázquez, CEO of OEM
Francisco Torres Vázquez from Latin America's largest newspaper group gave a peek into the comprehensive task it must be to transform 60+ newsrooms both in terms of strategy but also IT infrastructure.
3. Creating a successful digital strategy for a regional news publisher by Nicolas L. Fromm, Managing Director Digital NOZ MEDIEN / mh:n MEDIEN
For Nicolas Fromm, creating a successful subscription strategy involves analyzing users and identifying and creating content for loyal users.
4. Making newsroom software for real people by Mads J?rgensen, UX Design Lead at CCI
Mads J?rgensen shared some of the UX do's and don'ts with the audience that he himself follows when designing CUE.
"We are developing CUE for the true superheroes of news. Believe it or not, it’s not the tech department. Its of course the content creators." - Mads J?rgensen, UX Design Lead at CCI
5. How to introduce CUE to 1000 journalists by Antti Plathan, Service Manager at YLE
Due to the high level of intuitiveness of CUE, the Finnish broadcaster, YLE, has spent minimal time training its journalists and editors in using the new content creation platform.
YLE has also already developed lots of enrichment services and integrations into CUE - stay tuned for more about that!
6. Creating a content engine with CUE by Adrian Dawson-Becker, Technical Analyst at Forum Communications
Forum Communications haven't even been a member of the CCI & Escenic user community for a year, and they're already on the speaker list of our yearly media tech conference. Thank you, Adrian!
Adrian Dawson-Becker talked about how Forum Communications is reinventing its media company and honing the “Content Engine” that is this regional US media brand with CUE as the main technological platform.
In the article below, Adrian Dawson-Becker further explains the motivation behind and the goal with creating a content engine at Forum Communications.
