Highlights from Compass Sydney 6 Graduation

Outlined below are some of the many quotes that I captured from our most recent Compass - Visionary Leadership for Women program - Sydney 6 cohort. The women came together to share their stories and present their Compass journey from the last three months. These quotes are a valuable reminder for all of us.

• “We are all perfectly imperfect and that’s perfectly alright.” (Quote – Muniba Mazari): accepting ourselves as we are enables us to let go of any preconceived expectation of who we think we should be. Dr Brené Brown has written an entire book about this in her book ‘The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are’.
• “Courage is not having the strength to go on; it is going on when you don't have the strength.” (Quote – Theodore Roosevelt).
• “Leadership is inspirational not transactional. It’s not about being liked or not liked, it’s how you behave”: Management – means getting things done; managing people, task etc. and looking downwards. Leadership – means vision, guiding, influencing, working as part of a team, behavioural and looking upwards.
• “What I see in the mirror is not what other people see”: we can be our own harshest critics which can lead to defensive behaviour towards others. We must know and love self first before we lead others.
• “Put your own oxygen mask on first” – before you help others, you must help yourself first. We must ensure we have enough air to breathe and energy for yourself before you can assist and give to others.
• “Purpose is not a one size fits all”: it is unique and different for each and every one of us and it comes from the heart.
• “We see everything through our own emotional filters. If you don’t like the view, change your filters on life” – in other words change the way your mind works and change your view of reality. It starts with the stories we tell ourselves.
• “When women connect and collaborate with other women”: Compass is not just about learning new material, it’s about connecting to other women and creating a safe and trusting place for the women to share their personal stories.

So wonderful to see the change in these women over the past three months and hear their stories. We welcome these women to the Compass Alumnae and look forward to seeing

their aspirations play out in a purposeful manner.
