HIGHLIGHTS: 'CURATING & CRAFTING THE LIVING ROOM' WITH MARTIN BRUDNIZKI AND MICHAEL DIAZ-GRIFFITH
Design Centre Chelsea Harbour
Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour is the world’s premier destination for interior design and decoration excellence.
During the final week of Focus/24: The Longer View, we held a Conversations in Design Talk - Curating and Crafting The Living Room, in association with Design Leadership Network -? with Martin Brudnizki, founder of MBDS and Michael Diaz-Griffith , executive director and CEO of Design Leadership Network, moderated by Giles Kime , executive and interiors editor at?Country Life.
A calendar highlight at our autumn design show, our guest speakers shared insights into how a highly considered approach, with an emphasis on intricate design details, sets living rooms apart, offering unique and inspirational insights into how to create convivial, rich, complex and layered interiors.
“I tell my team that they shouldn’t search the internet [for inspiration]. There are books, there are auction catalogues… go out, look beyond a computer screen” – Martin Brudnizki.
“You’re designing a room to live in, not an image. People are desperate to create an image of a room that will be its mature self on completion – when [decorating] should be a long journey of encouraging your own taste. I would advise on not trying to achieve a perfect image any time soon” – Michael Diaz Griffith
?“The craft will create the beauty, and it’s up to the designer to create the function. You can use it to disguise something boring, like a TV…we should support great manufacturers and makers, because they are disappearing more and more” – Martin Brudnizki.
“There’s a growing interest in all the decorative arts that contribute to a room – a much more refined expression of how we want to live than a white box. Clients have a desire to be patrons of the decorative artists – they are really appreciating these rich, complex, layered interiors” – Michael Diaz Griffith
