Highland Community Development: A fund focused on development

For the benefit of development:

Highland Community Development is a community development fund focused on the Cape Breton Highlands. We believe it is our duty to bring prosperity to the place our ancestors have gifted us.

The purposeful underdevelopment of the Cape Breton Highlands, given the sacrifices of hard work, two world wars, and the formation of Canada, is truly a blessing. To make that blessing count, we must empathize both with the community members, and those who wish to become Canadians, and pull together to make and protect a beautiful culture for all to be safe, proud and strong. This way we can continue to thrive at home and go out into the world and help others.

These are the core values and ethics that drive us each day to strive for excellence in a humble manner. Our development goals are lofty but we believe that with the right mix of hospitality from our rural communities and the family values of our guests, investors and team members, we will achieve our goals.

Environmental sensitivity is paramount, and we only want the best for our Mother Earth. We are always open to suggestions, wisdom and guidance to do things right. These are the values upon which we rely each day to teach our children, respect our neighbors, help others, and determine right from wrong.

Our founder and President Brad Donovan’s ancestor arrived to Ingonish eight generations ago. Now his five children all share Canadian and Mexican citizenship, and a large part of the purpose of Highland Community Development is to build bridges of human understanding and share the warmth and hospitality between cultures, celebrating unity in diversity, and fostering peace and prosperity.
