Highest Immigration Numbers Since 1867

‘Canada is built on immigration, and we will continue to safely welcome the immigrants that Canada needs to succeed’ – Sean Fraser (Immigration Minister)

In 2021 Canada broke immigration records by landing 401,000 immigrants. This was the second time since 1867 that Canada recorded this number. In the previous year, 2020, due to the onset of the pandemic, they were unable to meet their immigration targets due to travel restrictions and health considerations of the possible immigrants. Consequently, increasing immigration is seen as integral to Canada’s post-pandemic recovery options.

Thanks to this post-recovery plan, Canada managed to land upwards of 35,000 immigrants each month since June 2021. This number even reached 45,000 in some months. As the immigration minister puts it, immigrants are vital for Canada’s economy, especially in the post-pandemic landscape where world economies are slowly recovering. In order to aid recovery and add to the pool of Canada’s skilled labor force, immigration is as important now as it has been historically.

In 2022, Canada has been consistently inviting immigrants through various programs, introducing new programs and increasing immigration targets. Furthermore, immigrant workers and international students are experiencing an increase in demand for their skills and, consequently, their pay as well. Given the Canadian government’s commitment to accelerate their post-pandemic economy recovery, the future is filled with possibilities.?
