Higher Education project with Leeds Beckett University

On the 2nd February?, Zoe Stewart, Development Manager from Wakefield Council and Sarah Leeson from the Landscape Team helped facilitate a new and exciting design project for?Landscape Students from Leeds Beckett University with lecturers Matt Machouki and John McCleary.?Each year the postgraduate conversion students from Leeds Beckett University do a module which takes them through the project stages from concept to technical detail.?As it is their first project as Landscape Architects, the project site is quite modest in size.?Previously students have developed designs for the abandoned walled garden at 英国约克大学 Campus.

This year, Groundwork were approached to see if we had any suitable project sites that were of a comparable size.?As Wakefield is on our doorstep and is going through major regeneration, the Orangery site and?adjacent car park, which used to be the entrance to the old Westgate Station was proposed, as this is one of the future development sites for the city.

The students were given the opportunity to explore the Grade 2* Orangery and its grounds and Zoe gave a brief history of the site and the vision that the council had for the area which could potentially?finally link the Pemberton House on the old station concourse to the orangery.?These currently sit either side of Back Lane.

After getting to grips with the two sites, they were taken on a walking tour of the city by Sarah, shown a few of the current projects which will be delivered in the next two years down to the Hepworth Gallery and its critically acclaimed gardens.
