High Wage vs. Low Wage LMIA in Canada

High Wage vs. Low Wage LMIA in Canada

Both the high wage and low wage LMIA processes govern the labour market in Canada. Well paid positions require an intensive screening and hiring process, while low paid positions have relatively easy access. Both these processes ensure an equal and just labour market because they cater to the urgent demand of the employers and safeguard the interests of the workforce in the long run. This environment facilitates efficient and sustainable economic development for businesses and employees alike.

What is LMIA?

Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), does its Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to ensure fair employment for foreign workers hired in Canada. LMIA is a document demanding Canadian employers to hire foreign workers under the TFWP, making sure no Canadian citizen or permanent resident is willing or able to fill the job.

Role of ESDC

ESDC, being a federal department, is responsible for enhancing the living standards and improving quality of life of Canadians through its policies and programs and especially in the process of LMIA.

Following Ways to Applying for? LMIA?

  • High Wage Positions
  • Low Wage Positions
  • Primary agriculture positions
  • Applications for support for permanent residency
  • Global Talent Stream
  • Caregiver Positions
  • Foreign Academic positions
  • Hiring in the province of Quebec
  • Recognized Employer Pilot

High-Wage Positions

Under the LMIA program, employers have to meet a number of demands, including a job application form and supporting documents. Based on current provisions, as of April 4, 2022, for high-wage positions, employers can request up to 3 years of employment for their business. The employer must need that amount of time. All full-time positions must be at least 30 hours per week.?

High wage jobs have an application and location-related fees. Recruitment for foreign workers is attentive and regulated to ensure control over incoming foreign workers who should not replace jobs from Canadians and permanent residents. The fee structure has a fair balance toward both fairness and competitiveness in the labour market, encouraging economic stability and growth.

Low Wage Jobs

Low-income agricultural and retail jobs-agricultural work during the seasons-small cities and rural Canada suffer serious economic poverty because of those low-paying jobs. This problem is caused by inadequate access to a share of highly skilled job opportunities and industries offering lower remuneration.?

Underemployment with flowover effects on family stress will be added by increasing living costs and reliance on part-time and temporary employment. Local interest organisations and community-based groups kick off media campaigns that start to demand better wages and working conditions in LIMA centred around fair labour practices and economic development investments. That should improve the quality of life for low-wage workers and improve the overall quality of the city's environment.

The High Wage vs. Low Wage LMIA highlighted the complexity that could be involved in the labour market where high wage earners will require harsh requirements and higher fees, to put a protection on the local workers, but at the other end, there are low-wage jobs and therefore low complicated fees, hiring more Canadians.
