High Speed Broadband

High Speed Broadband

This week's episode of Easy to read Deep Thoughts (High-Speed Broadband) speaks to a topic we all should take seriously. Our special guest Marty Probst joins us LIVE 12pm (EST) this Friday (2/28) to dive deep into the information superhighway.

Multiple directions

I ask my guests to pick our topic for the week and I write this newsletter independently of my guest = I don't know what they intend to share specifically. Only the general topic or 'title' of our following conversation.

This is a BIG deal

Example: When we moved into our new house a few years ago, the cables from our house to under our street were old and outdated (how they described it). As a self-employed, only eat what I catch type of entrepreneur, this situation hurt. So much so, if they didn't fix the wire (they did within 3 months), we would have moved.

Home from School

On top of my own experiences, seeing my kids try and complete schoolwork from home a few years ago was an observation worth remembering = poor internet decreases learning. Specifically, any moment a kid is distracted from the task at hand would be a decrease is potential learning.

Similar to angry kids throwing game controls at TV's, a student learning that they lost that school paper they spent all night on but couldn't back up to the cloud because 'the internet flaked out' is functionally similar.

I heard a story of businesses next to Wall Street Stock exchanges installing direct, high-speed internet lines to increase their reaction speed to stock market changes.

The reverse

If those peak competitive, peak motivation situations conclude that 'Speed makes money' then 'Not Speed costs money' at least in the certainty of opportunity costs. Similar to the 1st roads, those farthest from the road, benefit the least. Those nearest to the road benefit the most.

Future success in nearly all aspects of life in 2025 and beyond could be correlated to a distance from high-speed internet.

The ability to overcome unknown future problems is more significant than the ability to overcome well-known, predictable problems. The progression of stable processes loses to the flexibility of new unknown processes (Internet = All human knowledge).
