High risk of death for older athletes

Putting on my "personal training hat" here, because too many older athletes are dying.

Surf life saver Dean Mercer's death heralded an article on the topic (see link).

Within surf life saving there have been quite a few deaths of well-known (apparently healthy) athletes dying. Paul Holmes (died while on a #surfski), Peter Lacey (died while training), Alan Coates (#heart attack while running). Guy Leech had serious health issues.

Dr. Greg Reddan, a fellow competitor of my vintage and who taught physical education at Griffith University, also pointed out the worrying trend in an email to me last week.

So, if you're in the over-40 category, I'd suggest do some research and re-evaluate your program.
