High-Phenolic Olive Oil is Best for Optimal Health

Limor Goren, Ph.D. is a cancer researcher and founder of?Kyoord high-phenolic olive oil. She is a woman on a mission to advocate and educate about small changes for big effects on health. One of the simplest things we can do is use high-quality olive oil.

The human body works optimally using fats for its fuel, but not all fats are equal.

When it comes to fats, olive oil is decidedly one of the very best fats for optimal health, but not all olive oils are equal either. Most extra virgin olive oils have the same amount of oleic acid which is a healthy fat, but some have higher amounts of polyphenols than others.

Polyphenols

Polyphenols are micronutrients that naturally occur in plants and have many health benefits. They promote good bacteria growth in the gut, support good digestion, and they are also health-promoting antioxidants. High-quality extra virgin olive oil can be a good source of polyphenols.

Oleocanthal

Olives have unique polyphenols not found in other fruits. One is called oleocanthal and it has both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

Dr. Goren’s research centers on the molecule oleocanthal. It’s known to be neuro-protective and can improve brain function, but also now proven to be toxic to cancer cells. This is why oleocanthal caught the doctor’s attention. And this is why she created her own brand of olive oil that would be the highest in polyphenols and oleocanthal, to be used proactively or for medicinal purposes.

Great article and thanks for sharing. I've long been a proponent of extra virgin cold pressed olive oil for cooking and recipes. I wasn't aware of the neuroprotective attributes. Will pay close attention to the phenol and oleocanthol going forward.
