As an academic warrior I am not alone in saying, this is crunch time! The semester wraps with lots of projects, extra meetings with students, calculations of finals grades and each May; farewell coffee dates with our accomplished seniors. It’s all for good reason but it adds to the intensity of the schedule, inevitably increasing the stress on some days. Yesterday I felt it building up, and I’m blessed to have the flexibility to get in a quick and intense 30min workout. Ahh…what a difference that makes. Mind cleared, lungs challenged, tanks emptied and the feeling of stress relief was instant. If your #OvercomingStress recipe does not include high intensity interval training, give it a try. The research is clear and published by Dr. Jack Raglin (my dear exercise scientist husband). Adding high intensity to the mix of a quick hike, a brisk walk, mind clearing music or a meditation session makes for a winning formula. If you feel stress build up, take a break and do something active for your body and mind. You will not regret it!

6 年My workouts are non-negotiable for many reasons like this. Its the only thing i do every day that is strictly for ME. Its challenging and satisfying to focus and push my body harder than my brain thought it could go, and I feel strong, healthy, confident and less stressed afterward. Who knew sweat, soreness and exhaustion could be so good for the mind and body? ????
So true, nothing better after a stressful day at the office than a heavy bag at gym.

6 年So true! And lunch walks can be meditative as well.

6 年I'm just getting back into HITT after a hiatus. I know the benefits, but have allowed the excuses to keep me from it. Now I'm choosing to put myself first. Even after just a few days, I notice the difference in my energy, mental clarity and stress relief. Such a good reminder that it doesn't take a lot of time to have an impact.
