Hierarchy of Smarts
Jonathan ?? Pritchard
Does your company exhibit at 2+ trade shows a year? What if there's a way to get 2-5x more business from your booth? Would that be worth a conversation?
There’s a weird thing that I’ve seen in the magic world, the woodworking world, the martial arts world, and any other skill-adjacent world.
It’s this: most people would rather collect techniques than understand principles.
In the magic world they practice dozens of card sleights, coin disappearances, and other feats of dexterity. But, they rarely learn a performance or entertain an audience.
Woodworkers own 30 hand planes and haven’t produced a single piece of furniture in the last year.
Martial artists know 73 techniques to disarm an attacker, but land on their butt from a completely untrained opponent.
But, to me, techniques are the least important part of the equation.
Methods are better because they imply more consideration for making things happen.
Systems are the best, in my book. It’s a front-to-back approach that’s lazer focused on results.
Which are you focused on? What do you spend your time with?
Techniques? Methods? Systems?
I’m curious to know what you think.
Best thoughts, ~Jonathan
