Hiding in plain sight.

Hiding in plain sight.

I just finished my to do list for the day and it's 2:30pm.

The phone calls have been made, the emails have been sent and the client work is complete. My day should be over now.

Except there are still things that are eating at me.

Why is that?

Hiding in plain sight is the easiest way to avoid being found out.

What I haven't shared, is that I still haven't hit my business development goal for the week. I also didn't workout twice this week. It's Thursday at 2:30, so there is not enough time left to succeed.

If there aren't at least 3-5 phone calls lined up for next week with potential clients then I won't be able to sleep this weekend.

This is the moment that separates the healthy leader and one with a toxic mentality.

The easiest thing to do would be to fill my Friday with activity and tasks so that I "stay busy". It's the most common way we avoid doing things that are hard or challenging.

If you are "really busy" then others don't bother you with accountability. Clearly you have everything under control. But YOU know that's not the case.

What's the answer, then?

I propose these 3 actions next time you get in this position:

  1. Tell someone you are feeling challenged by a specific task
  2. Write out a reward you will give yourself once the task is done
  3. Write the task on your calendar in a timeslot

Use the proven science of writing, telling and rewarding yourself to beat it. Stop hiding in plain sight and instead, struggle in plain sight.

It's what good leaders do.
