The Hidden Superpower: How Belief Shapes Our Lives and Success
Last week, I had the audacity to show up for a pitch competition after only having two hours to prepare for it.
I started piecing together the slide deck after 2pm. The pitch competition started at 5:30 p.m.
I still had to get dressed and drive there.?
Part of me wanted to say, “Linnita, just count this one a loss. You win some you lose some.” The other part of me (that boldly steps in when my inner critic speaks up) said “do it anyway."
My body felt the weight of it all. I had that ache in my upper right shoulder. An anxiousness and increased irritability. It felt like my heart was beating 3x.
By 4:15, with just 12 slides and scattered thoughts on notecards, I rushed to get dressed from the loft office into my bedroom to get dressed. I grabbed a prop for the pitch and a bottle of water and ran out of the door at 5:02
I wish I could tell you that I was 100% confident in what I had prepared andddd that I felt good about the minimal preparation time.
The funny thing is that preparation time is something I teach my clients. How important it is to have time to sit with what you’ll share and give room to make changes that come to mind.
I’m realizing in my own life, that I want to update that philosophy and add…
If you run into a situation where time is not on your side, your belief in who you are and what you offer overrides your preparedness.
Belief is a sacred trust of someone or something. It gives you unexplainable confidence in situations beyond what you would have planned and likely out of your control.
When you truly believe that you have everything you need (because you’ve been seeking, gaining, and applying wisdom), you will start to act on those beliefs.
This shows up in the everyday choices we make, how we choose careers, how we handle or run from conflict, who we marry, etc.?
Part of our job in growing awareness of who we are is to evaluate our beliefs and ask ourselves: Does what I believe about myself align with how I show up every day?
If it aligns, keep rocking out!?
If you’re unsure, here are some questions to ask yourself:
Here's what I'm taking away from my two-hour pitch adventure: My self-belief will show up or shrink in moments of pressure. My job is to always be building my belief in self.?
PS: I advanced to the final round of the pitch competition which takes place tomorrow evening. I will keep you posted on the outcome!
Making a Difference and Being Better
