A week ago, we received confirmation of the May 6 mega-bout between Mexican sons Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Assuming JCC Jr. doesn't putz this up by smoking the reefer and coming in massively untrained and overweight , this will be a hell of a Cinco de Mayo scene, whether it goes down in Texas or Vegas (negotiations continue).
It's also a neat news peg for a feature on Canelo's logo I was already writing, style nerd that I am (though I can't touch Paul Lukas, Uni-Watch King).
Meet Baltimore graphic designer Patrick Horvat -- the brain behind Canelo's logo and, by amazing happenstance, the son of the old boxing coach at Nellis Air Force Base, which is just 11 miles north of the world's fight capital, Las Vegas (but more on that later).
Horvat produced Canelo's "CA" logo while working at Under Armour from 2008-2016, during which time he also headed the design teams for a couple of minor basketball players you're unlikely to recognize -- a human Pogo Stick named Blake and a skinny, paper-ankled chucker called Steph.
