The Hidden Job Requirement

This a hard requirement that you will never see in a job description.
It is something that no one talks about until it is too late.
Being a good fit for the team and company.
Some call it a “cultural fit”.
Usually it is only mentioned when a rejection noticed is sent out. “Sorry but the hiring team didn’t feel you were a good fit for the company.” Or something to this effect.
Being a good fit for a company could mean a lot of things.?
? Can they get along with the team.
?Can they get along with the management and their style of doing things.
?Will they be a good fit for a smaller start up style or a larger more process driven company?
Most recruiters will do a very quick call just to make sure candidate fits the minimum requirements before shooting a resume over to the hiring team. Inexperienced recruiters only check candidates for the position minimum, like are they breathing, and can they put more than two sentences together.
But for experienced recruiters they understand this very important and unspoken requirement. The good recruiters work to uncover more than the average recruiter will in the initial screening and subsequent calls with candidates by asking the right questions.
Experienced recruiters know that it is critical to understand the company and team dynamics or culture, and they ask certain questions that are geared toward finding the right candidate, not only for the position but for the company.

You may not find out everything there is to know about a candidate in the first call. So it is important to continue the conversation as long as the candidate is in the hiring process.
Early on in my career, I didn’t really understand this very important step. As a result, I presented candidates for positions and companies that were not the best fit.
This is one of the reasons I created a unique and detailed recruiting and hiring process, which I call the PATRIOT Recruiting Method. This method guilds me and my clients through detailed recruiting process beginning with Planning and ending with Talent or new employee being hired.
So job seekers, when you are looking for your next role, understand this unspoken job requirement. Are you a good fit?
Once you understand this, it may also may make your decision easier when considering what companies you want to work for.
For companies hiring, are you asking the right questions when interviewing candidates so you don’t waste your time and the candidates time?

Have a great weekend!
