The Hidden Goldmine for Career Reinvention After 50: Why LinkedIn Is Your Next Chapter’s Best Friend

The Hidden Goldmine for Career Reinvention After 50: Why LinkedIn Is Your Next Chapter’s Best Friend

If you’re a woman over 50 looking to reinvent your career, LinkedIn may be the most valuable (and overlooked) tool you have at your fingertips. It’s a space filled with untapped opportunities to connect with ideal clients, strategic partners, and vendors who can help bring your next chapter to life.

Why is LinkedIn so powerful for reinvention? First, it’s not just a platform for corporate professionals anymore—LinkedIn is where people of all ages and industries are building relationships and businesses. But for women over 50, it’s also a unique space to showcase your expertise, wisdom, and authentic self in a professional yet approachable way.

Here’s how I made two simple yet transformative updates to my LinkedIn profile that helped me jumpstart my journey into what I call my “dream job.”

(or you can watch my video here ????)

1. Claiming My Name: Updating My LinkedIn URL

For 18 years, my LinkedIn URL reflected my title and expertise as the “LinkedIn Expert.” While that served me well for a long time, I realized it was time to step into my identity, not just my past position. So, I changed my URL to include my name.

This was more than just a tactical move—it was a psychological shift. I knew I might lose some Google SEO power from my previous title, but I also knew this was my chance to own my name and my narrative.

If you’re starting fresh or reinventing your career, consider making this change. Whether your URL includes your name or your new business, it signals to the world (and to yourself) that you’re stepping into something new.

2. Creating a Placeholder Position

At the time, I wasn’t exactly sure what my new career would look like. But I knew one thing: I needed to take action. So, I added a new position to my LinkedIn experience section—Founder | Keynote Speaker | Author | CatalystFounder | Keynote Speaker | Author | Catalyst at Beyond the Dream Board

Even though it was a placeholder, adding this position served two important purposes:

  • Psychological Confidence Boost: It reminded me that I was building something new.
  • Increased Visibility: By turning on notifications, LinkedIn informed my network about my new position. This sparked conversations with people in my existing network, which eventually led to my first clients.

Never underestimate the power of reconnecting with your network. Whether it’s an old colleague, a friend, or an acquaintance, LinkedIn is the perfect platform to reach out, have meaningful conversations, and explore new opportunities.

The Importance of Reinvention: A Sneak Peek into Next Week

While these two changes made a significant difference for me, I also faced challenges that nearly made me quit. What helped me overcome those struggles? A book. Yes, a single book changed my mindset and gave me the confidence to keep going.

I’ll be sharing the details of that encounter next week, so stay tuned!

If you’re ready to reinvent yourself, don’t wait for clarity to strike. Start with small steps—like updating your LinkedIn profile—and watch the doors begin to open.

Are you using LinkedIn to its full potential? Let’s connect and talk about how you can use it to launch your next chapter.

Excellent Viveka von Rosen - and will forward!?Right on that reinvention (after 50, or any age) isn’t about starting over—it’s about stepping fully into your wisdom, experience, and purpose. For sure LinkedIn can be a powerful tool - and of course it takes work and time. ??
