Welcome to Hidden Gems, a bi-weekly newsletter of my key takeaways and reflections from self-education.
You'll find ideas and actionable insights you can apply immediately to your life.
I hope you find something of value!
Nourish your relationships
Relationships are living, breathing entities. They require nourishment to maintain and grow.
Maintaining relationships with people you have a connection with requires an intentional practice. If someone I haven't spoken to in a while pops into my head, I like to send them a simple text. Mainly to let them know I am thinking of them. I am consistently surprised at the responses I get.
Of course, I'd prefer to catch up over coffee or lunch, but that isn't always realistic. A simple text can have an incredible impact on maintaining connections between in-person meetings.
There may be a relationship you have that could use some nourishment.
Be interested in others
Reading How to Win Friends and Influence by Dale Carnegie in college changed my life. The main takeaway I will always remember is to be genuinely interested in other people. Your attention and focus are some of the best gifts to give others.
To be interesting, be interested.
Insights on sales leadership
Learning how to coach someone has been one of the most beneficial things I've learned over the last few years. Mainly knowing when to step in and solve something, give advice, listen, ask questions, etc.
I firmly believe in the power of investing in others. People have invested in me and allowed me to flourish, and likewise, I am on a mission to do the same for others.
I've seen teammates grow in ways I could have never imagined just by my approach to helping them through a situation.
If you're in sales leadership, I highly recommend reading The Sales Manager's Guide to Greatness: Ten Essential Strategies for Leading Your Team to the Top.
