1. Introduction: the "Hiatus series"
“The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.”—Michelangelo
In this four-part series, we focus on how organizations adopt sustainability strategies. Our past year's exploration has widely demonstrated how having a sustainable strategy plan can positively affect company growth and performance, underlining the advantages of positive reputation and savings due to the efficiency of the resources used.
Let's call this the "Hiatus" series, which we will separate into four sequential steps:?

The tendency to create sustainable value assumes a relevant role in business strategies that aim to achieve high-quality performance while respecting natural resources. Different challenges, focusing on people, the planet, prosperity, and collaboration, represent goals to improve people’s lives.
Humanity has a problem with planetary boundaries, and ready or not, we are moving to a world of scarce resources. Organizations will increasingly need to consider their total return on assets and equity and market demands. We’ve entered a shift where leaders need to deal with a complex and unprecedented brew of social, environmental, market, and technological trends. These require sophisticated, sustainability-based management and upgraded practices. Yet, as mentioned many times in this review, most decision-makers are often reluctant to place sustainability core to their business strategy in the mistaken belief that the costs outweigh the benefits. On the contrary, business experience and academic research point to quite the opposite.?
Traditional corporate social responsibility and philanthropy are inadequate for our times. Leaders must rethink what an organization is, how it grows and profits, what its purpose is, and how it drives change in the world. Most known business models aim to create value for shareholders, often at the expense of stakeholders. At the same time, sustainable businesses are redefining the corporate ecosystem by designing models that create value for all stakeholders, including the planet, the environment, natural ecosystems, civil society, supply chains, shareholders, employees.?
Here's how to deal with productivity and performance in times of uncertainty—[Continue reading ].

We see we are in a different world than we were five years ago, even a couple of years ago before the pandemic outstrike. We should also better acknowledge that technology is evolving at a breakneck pace; nevertheless, many organizations are blatantly failing us, and our institutions are outdated. We need to reshape our world in a new way to build a sustainable future with confidence and a community mindset.
In this Ask the experts episode, I have the privilege to discuss with my friend, the fantastic Anthony Day, blockchain leader at IBM, host of the successful "Blockchain won't save the world" podcast, and just announced one of the top voices of LinkedIn.
