Hi-Tech vs. Hi-Touch in HR
It has been more than a month I was at PeopleFirst HRExcellence awards and one of the topics discussed at this event, Hi-Tech vs. Hi-Touch in HR, is still fresh in my mind..
PeopleFirst HRExcellence awards are about celebrating the finest initiatives implemented in HR across geographies and recognizing the world class work done in about 13 HR leading practices and in about 4 individual contribution categories.
At this event, I saw two types of innovations. One depending on technology for innovation in core HR functions - 'Hi-Tech' and other still relying on human touch in taking core decisions – ‘Hi-Touch’. Let us analyze these two types more closely for key HR functions:
As observed, both have their own merits. However, since HR function is related to touch and feel, organizations that are focusing on soft aspects while leveraging technology for either automation or additional insights before taking the human decision are becoming popular. In the new age where people are connected to devices more than people, making the Hi-touch reach the people leveraging Hi-Tech is the need of the hour.
