Hi Louisa

Hi Louisa

Hi Louisa. We know you had quite the journey before joining DFS - would you mind telling us a bit about it??

Of course! I guess you could say my journey started when I left school, aged 16. I knew college wasn’t for me, but I felt a bit lost without it. One day, a friend of mine said her company, Courtaulds, was hiring machinists making textiles for Marks and Spencers. I’d never touched a sewing machine before, but I jumped at the opportunity.?

What happened after that?

A lot! I gradually moved roles around that factory, working and learning on different machines. I eventually moved into the sample room, making garments. It was absolutely brilliant, and I ended up working as a garment technologist across multiple businesses for a few years. I was running large teams, and regularly visiting Cambodia, China and Sri Lanka to source materials.?

So why the move to DFS??

My priorities changed. Yes, travelling opened up my eyes to a world of opportunity within textiles. But at that time I was also starting a family with my husband, who was also an upholsterer at DFS. I wanted to be closer to home, and closer to my kids. Travelling across the world wasn’t something which worked for me anymore. I knew all about DFS through my husband, and knew I’d fit right in. It was a no-brainer to make the move.

And how’s your time been here??

I’ve been here seven years now, and it’s been amazing. My decision to move jobs for my family couldn’t have been a better one. Thanks to the flexible shifts at DFS, both my husband and I have been there to watch our kids grow up, to be there for the big moments, and to support each other through the tough moments.?

From a career perspective, I couldn’t have asked for more. I’m very career-minded, and I wanted a bit more from my role shortly after joining. So, I chatted with the factory manager at Lincoln House, and took on responsibilities in quality control. I started out buying feet for the sofas, and it escalated into buying everything else!??

What’s your favourite part of your day-to-day?

Honestly, it’s the fact that no two days look the same. I’m busy all the time, which I love, and I get to work hard with an amazing team around me. We work so well together, especially when things get tight - we all look out for one another, like a big family.?

What are you most excited about for the future??

Progression. I can’t wait to see where my journey goes with DFS!
