Hi, I'm from the internet.?

Hi, I'm from the internet.?

I recently re-listened to “How to talk to Anyone” by Leil Lowndes.

It’s a great listen and a natural follow-up to Dale Carnegie's “How to Win Friends and & Influence People”.

The takeaway is that the quality of conversations comes down to your conversational counterpart.

They have to be interested in talking to you!?

Making a conversation successful comes down to listening and giving detailed , interesting responses.

Business conversations generally start with the most basic of questions:

"what do you do?"

It's fascinating to learn about what people do for a living. It gives you a sense of what the other person is passionate about.

The seamlessness of our day-to-day lives is only capable with an incredible commitment from others.

My industry is the internet.?

My job is to design mechanisms for the organization and broadcasting of information on the internet.?

Specifically, medical information.

The organizing of information on the internet is a robust task that impacts all of us. Segmenting information allows for: availability, access, control, and trust of information.

Is everything the FDA puts on FDA.gov actually from - the FDA??

Sure is, because of the restricted use of the US governments top-level domain.

The .gov part of the URL. (https://fda.gov)

The government is able to organize and broadcast information with confidence.

This is no small feat.

Entities and individuals that access information on FDA.gov know it is coming directly from the authoritative source. Information like:

  • license data
  • draft guidance
  • drug recall information

All recognized as coming from the authoritative source.

Other examples of trustworthy informational organization and broadcasting include...

  • Academia organizes and broadcasts information with .edu
  • Global commerce organizes and broadcasts with .com (not restricted)
  • Government categorizes and broadcasts information with .gov

This happens publicly and privately behind the scenes of our daily lives and we all benefit from the hierarchal structure and reliability of the internet.

Top-level domains are the internet's highest level of information hierarchy and can be restricted for particular uses. My focus is Medical categorization.

Trust.med (our company) utilizes the .med top-level domain for this purpose.

We also build software, API's (application programming interfaces), and integrate into existing systems. All in an effort to organize and broadcast medical information from the information's authoritative source.?

..and this is where I start the conversation.

This is the beginning of "What do you do?"

Building the conversation

In “How to Talk to Anyone” the author, Leil, points out the importance of answering basic questions in a way that is intriguing and allows the conversation to continue.?

Instead of answering the question of:

“What do you do?”

with…”I work at Trust.med, The Medical Communication Company.”?

I take a deeper dive from the beginning. It’s a great way to determine if the other person is interested in continuing the discussion and gives the conversation the ability to go to the next level.?

In fact...

I'm looking forward to having great conversations with the pharmaceutical supply chain leaders and their technology providers at the HDA - Healthcare Distribution Alliance Traceability Seminar.

(I'm actually writing this from the hotel lobby)

Trust.med is organizing and broadcasting critical pharmaceutical product data to help trading partners and their solution providers with their near term DSCSA efforts.

I'll be there with my friend and colleague Lloyd Mager who knows a ton about the pharma supply chain, DSCSA, and what's needed to effectively collaborate at scale.

Hi, I'm from the internet. Nice to meet you.

Do you just wait for your time to talk, or do you really listen. You would be amazed at how much more gets done if you just focus on ACTUALLY listening! Great insight here Dan!
